Left to Right Peter Wise - President, Marcelo Angulo – Vice President, Eugenie Stephans – Secretary and Peter Hughes – Treasurer

The Annual General Meeting of the Nimbin Chamber of Commerce was held on Monday 21st November 2012 at Nimbin Hotel and Backpackers.  As this meeting was held prior to the Lismore City Council/Nimbin Rural Contact Forum, Chamber’s intention was to appoint the new office-bearers and not hold a general meeting. This would allow everyone present to join the Rural Contact Forum at Nimbin School of Arts Hall.

The Annual General Meeting then commenced with the President, Peter Wise giving an overview of the past years’ successes, achievements and his report. Treasurer, Peter Hughes presented the annual financial report. The Chamber executive committee remains the same but for the Vice President role which goes to Marcelo Angulo.  Thank you to Bevan Whitney for a job well done and a warm welcome to Marcelo.  Chamber has increased its membership by over 30%.  The Business-After-Hours events at the Hotel have proven successful and great member benefits for small business from the alliance with the NSW Business Chamber.

Peter thanked the Chamber Executive for a job well done throughout the year and those who worked on projects and contributed, especially members taking time out from their businesses and volunteering their time to support the Nimbin businesses with good consequences for the community as well. In particular, the development of the Nimbin Murals Restoration Project draft strategic plan. With further assistance from Nat Meyer from the Nimbin Neighbourhood Centre, has led to Council allocating Heritage grant funding for the murals. Some of the mural restorations are in process and other property owners are encouraged to take up this opportunity now.  The Chamber website is now up and running – thanks to Nimbin Community Centre, Paris Naday, Kim Gould and Peter Hughes.

Nimbin’s first working bus trial departing Lismore at 5.30pm for Nimbin has been extended thus enhancing transport for the Nimbin community.

The new Committee promised to continue to undertake the work of the Chamber with commitment and enthusiasm.
